Tree Planting, Finche Field 11.30 am Wednesday 29th March
The final tree planting of the season is planned for 11.30am on Wednesday 29th March in Finche Field, along the same fencing as the trees planted in early 2022.
The trees are an English Oak, a Beech and a Copper Beech, supplied and to be maintained by Derek Shurvell.
Officially it is identified with the Queen's Green Canopy and will almost certainly be the final planting in West Sussex under the auspices of the scheme. I expect two or three Deputy Lieutenants to attend and carry out the ceremonial planting of one of the trees.
I do hope that as many of you as possible can attend as I have worked hard to encourage Parish and Town Councils across West Sussex to plant as many trees as their budgets allow. I am encouraged by the response though of course we could not match the planting of the great estates, many of whom managed to raise additional funding from SDNP and other bodies to finance the trees they planted. Overall West Sussex has planted about 140,000 trees, double the target of 70,000 predicted at the start of the QGC programme in early 2022.
