About the Parish Council

Village Hall

The Parish Council represents the interests of the communities of West Hoathly, Sharpthorne, Selsfield Common and Highbrook.

The parish council office is situated in the Village Hall and is open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. During these times the Parish clerk is available to:

  • help with enquiries
  • take bookings for use of the Village Hall
  • supply details of local planning applications
  • arrange allotment rental (large and small plots available at Finche Field)
  • issue concessionary Bus and Rail passes for those over the pension age

The Parish Council owns and runs:

  • North Lane Recreation Ground
  • Finche Field
  • The Old Playground at the eastern end of Sharpthorne

The Parish Council meets at 8:00 pm on the last Monday of each month. Meetings are open to the public and begin with a public question time.

The Council is assisted by the:

  • Planning Committee which makes appropriate responses to local planning applications made to Mid Sussex District Council on behalf of the Villages and local residents.
  • Rural Management Committee which looks after the land the Parish either owns and manages on behalf of the National Trust at Selfield Common. The committee also works closely with the Local Conservation Group who seek to maintain our beautiful local environment.
  • Resource & Management Committee which oversees the finances of the Council and manages the Village Hall.
  • Highways & Transport Committee which has been researching ways of alleviating this enduring local problem.
